YESTERDAYFEST – Introducing Ultravlt

/, Interviews, Slider/YESTERDAYFEST – Introducing Ultravlt

You might know Ultravlt by their former name Sarahj. After some amazing releases housing some of the most passionate and introspective alternative rock we’ve heard as of late, the band are back with a new identity and ready to take the scene by storm again. We’re so grateful to have them on board for YesterdayFest!
We talked to the band about the name change, music old and new and what we can expect for their YesterdayFest set!

We’re so excited to have you guys on board for our very first YesterdayFest! How are you guys feeling about playing live again?

We are extremely excited! Getting back into live shows seems like a dream and we feel so lucky to be able to do it again.

Obviously the elephant in the room is the big name change from Sarahj to Ultravlt. What were the reasons behind the name change and does it feel like a fresh start?

We are so hyped with our name change. Unfortunately, one of our members could no longer be in the band which is one of the inspirations for a fresh start. We feel as if we’ve had so much growth as a band and individually through lockdown that a name change would be the right resurrection for us.
Sarahj seems like such a baby to us compared to the new songs we’re working on now.
We have just learnt and grown so much in the past 2 years and we can’t wait to see how Ultravlt does.

You guys aren’t far removed from releasing your latest record Afterthought! How was it releasing that during the pandemic?

If we could go back in time, I definitely think that we wouldn’t change a thing. We only got to do our EP launch, so the songs have only been played at that one show, however if we knew that lockdown was going come about, it still would’ve been a goal to release it beforehand. These songs represent such a different part of our lives and although we believe it deserved to be played at more shows, we’re so glad we released it when we did.
The recognition it gained surprised us all. It hit way more streams that we could’ve dreamed of, especially it barely being exposed with live shows. We absolutely adore Afterthought and all the work that went into it.

Is there anything new in the works and will we hear it at YesterdayFest?

Yes! Before the pandemic, we were recording two new singles. These will be getting released this year, however will be exclusively played live for the first time at YesterdayFest. We’re excited to see how it goes.

Who else on the bill are you excited to watch?

EVERYONE!! We can’t wait to see these bands and musicians play live and share the same energy with them.

Bands like yourselves still released a lot of great music despite not being able to tour/promote it. What are some releases that you loved?

We were so excited when any band or artist released anything. We can’t pin point our favourites. Knowing how hard it is in the music industry, especially during and post the pandemic, we love supporting all the local bands and Artists.

Have you guys caught any live shows since pandemic restrictions lifted?

Unfortunately, we haven’t, every time we try they’re already sold out! Which is awesome.

Who are five Aussie locals we should be checking out?

Sir Jude
Wake the Blind
The City
Rival Fire

Anything you’d like to leave us with?

Thank you so much for having us a part of YesterdayFest, we can’t wait to play with everyone.

If you were lucky enough to get a ticket, catch Ultravlt at YesterdayFest on April 24th! Also be sure to check out their music on all good streaming services!
